The Access token tab connects a number you have already set up in Meta. You paste three values, and Kylo stores them without calling Meta. Use this method when you already run the number through your own Meta app or when your IT team issues the token.

Before you start

  • Facebook login is the better default. Read Choose a connection method first.
  • A WhatsApp number that is already registered for the Cloud API in Meta.
  • Access to the Meta App Dashboard and Meta Business Settings for that number.
  • A token that does not expire soon. Meta documents these types:

Generate a System User token in Meta

In Meta Business Settings select System users, then Add, and create a system user. Select it and choose Assign assets. Assign your app with Manage app and your WhatsApp account with Manage WhatsApp Business accounts. Then select Generate token, pick your app and an expiration preference, and add the permissions business_management, whatsapp_business_management, and whatsapp_business_messaging. Copy the token when it appears, because Meta does not show it again.Meta’s steps are in Cloud API get started, step 5.

Find the phone number id and the account id

In Meta Business Settings open Accounts, then WhatsApp accounts, and select the account and the number. The summary panel shows the phone number ID, the display name, the connection status, and the quality rating. The WhatsApp Business account id sits on the same page; Meta’s get-started guide tells you to keep both.

Open the Access token tab in Kylo

On Channels, select Connect on the WhatsApp card, then the Access token tab of Connect WhatsApp. Fill in the fields:Connect stays disabled until Access token and Phone number id both have text.

Select Connect

Select Connect. Kylo trims the three values, saves them with the token encrypted, and closes the dialog. The WhatsApp card now shows Manage.
Your agent has a WhatsApp connection with the values you supplied.
Kylo does not check the values with Meta. A wrong or expired token, or a mistyped phone number id, still produces a connection that reads Connected. The first send or a test message is the first real check, so run Verify the connection before you rely on it.

What happens when the account id is blank

The account id is optional at connect time, and Kylo stores a blank one as empty. Without it:
  • The Templates tab on the WhatsApp page cannot list or create templates, because Kylo needs the account id to reach Meta’s template endpoints. Creating a template fails with a not connected error.
  • WhatsApp Business account id on the Connection tab shows a dash.
Add the id now. Disconnect and connect again with all three values.

What Kylo does not do in this mode

Rotate the token later

Meta tokens set to expire, and tokens you revoke, stop working without a Kylo notice. To rotate, generate a new token in Meta, then open Channels, WhatsApp, Connection, select Disconnect, and connect again with the new token and the same ids. Templates stay, because they belong to the agent and not to the connection. See Manage the WhatsApp connection.
